Luftfahrtmuseum Wernigerode

Aproximately in the middle of Leipzig and Hannover, the best private aviation museum in Germany is located: the Luftahrtmuseum Wernigerode. Some people call it (Flugwerft) “Oberschleißheim of the east”, because of the selection of rare and well-preserved exhibits .

In 2012 we were already impressed with this collection: A Swiss Mirage IIIRS and Venom, British Jet Provost and Blackburn Bucaneer Cockpit are all rather seldom in German museums! On top several MiGs from NVA LSK (East German Air Force) and sevel types of (West) German Air Force are preserved here in good condition.

8 years later some more exclusive types were added: An Indian HF-24 (former Flugwerft Schleißheim aircraft) and a T-37B which was used for ENJJPT (Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training) at Sheppard Air Force base before. On top of one of the exhibition halls, the flyout Transall 51+01 of LTG 61 “Silberne Gams” is preserved and open for visitors.

All in all, we highly recommend a visit of this beautiful museum and will come back, for sure!

A big thank you to staff of museum for their service, even with limitations of pandemic.
